11.23.21 #GivingTuesday 2021 is one week away!

11.23.21

Dear Friends,

I hope everyone will have a safe and enjoyable holiday this week, with friends and family and all the food we can muster! In addition to the exciting news that I have been announcing about the new album that I am completing, there have also been unexpected developments in my full-time job at Arts Education in Maryland Schools (AEMS), a statewide non-profit advocating for equitable access to arts education in Maryland's public schools. As of December 10, I will be stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director of the organization as the board conducts a search for candidates (including myself)! This is an exciting development and I wish my current Executive Director Quanice Floyd well as she transitions to a new exciting role!

Since I'm now at the helm of this organization, I'm going to share with you some information about AEMS, as well as about Giving Tuesday, a charitable giving spree analogous to the post-Thanksgiving Black Friday shopping spree.

AEMS is committed to ensuring that all students in the state of Maryland have access to high quality arts education by mobilizing power to communities through advocacy programs, professional and leadership programs, and resource building and sharing. This past year, we have put on professional development programs for arts integration instructors, hosted a Symposium on anti-racism in arts education, and inaugurated a cohort of educators and teaching artists who will learn how to run a campaign and run for office so they can enact policy change around arts education.

Please help AEMS exceed it's Giving Tuesday goal of $1000 in donations by contributing a gift of any size. Your donations go to sustaining the organization and our programs, which serve the arts educators and public school students of Maryland.

Douglas Johnson Open Studio - December 11, 2021

If you're in the Baltimore area, stop by Doug's studio to peruse and purchase his incredible artwork or purchase (or pick-up if you pre-ordered) one of his stunning 2022 calendars! His artwork makes wonderful, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, as well, of course, being beautiful pieces for your own home. Hope that we'll see you there, with gingerbread cookies, apple cider, and hot coffee!

Get your boosters, stay masked, and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Best,

-Peter
